Another Before and after...

Ok I admit, I did not take this picture today. I have been in a seminar at work all day yesterday, today and will be tomorrow. I even have homework!! LOL- been a while since I've had to do that!! But work takes priority tonight :) I took this picture of my ds last weekend and hate the SOOC image. Sad thing is on overcast days this is what most of my images usually look like. UGH!!

I tried to lighten the photo so you could see his eyes, they are so dark!! Maybe I will play with it some more. I adjusted the curves, defogged, ran a warming filter and then did a color pop (downloaded from atn central.) Any suggestions? Im still so new to photoshop, wish I knew all the tricks!! Still looks better what I had when I started though!

Your editing has improved the photo tremendously. I wish I had some tips, but I don't even OWN photoshop (although that will be changing)so I'm NO HELP!

To get the eyes brighter you can start a new layer, select the eyes with the magic wand and then lighten them slightly using curves. I'm sure there are other ways this can be done, but this way works for me. You can also run a USM on them to give it that extra little sparkle. Good luck!

I think it looks GREAT! You did fantastic brightening it up. You could also select just his eyes and then pull the middle curve up to brighten them further.

I think you did SUCH an awesome job. Its a huge difference. His eyes are gorgeous, and so dark...I can still see a lot of light in them.

it looks a lot better. and you can see some really nice catchlights in his eyes actually - you can see a full reflection in there. You could probably bring out more of htat in photoshop, but don't push it too much or it will look overly processed.

great picture! i think it looks great after fixing it. but if you're so set on his eyes try this...

the magnetic lasso tool.
zoom in on his eyes, select the lasso tool (menu to your left), trace his eye color, then go to enhance (top menu) roll over adjust lighting, then select shadow/highlights.

better yet i'll just call you.

Dark eyes are so difficult and I'm glad you didn't make them look fake as so many look. I actually prefer nice dark eyes, maybe just a little dodging of the highlights would work wonders. Nice editing.

I would do what Heather suggested: use your dodge tool at a REALLY low opacity (probably ~6%) to go over his eyes. You already made a huge difference in this shot, though!

You did a really good job PSing this and bringing his skintones back up to where they should be. Great job!

Your conversion looks great. My dd has dark eyes too and I wish I new how to get them to pop like you see with someone with blue or green eyes.

You did a fine job with the editing. But I also really liked reading everyone's comments; there's so much I have to learn and this whole challenge is fantastic!

your editing really brought this up! great job there. as for the eyes, you can do the magic wand as suggested, or used the dodge tool and select hi-lights and midtones to do parts. have fun playing!

Wow, I learned a lot from reading your blog tonight. My middle one has dark eyes and I had no clue what to do with them! So thanks for asking. I think you did a great job brightening the photo! He is so cute. I wish there was an Easy Button for Photoshop, LOL.

You really made a big improvement here! I wonder if this would look even better if the background were made a little darker so he stood out more, but I don't know how to do that. :-)
